Our Instructor
Master Kevin Smith

Master Kevin Smith is an 8th degree Black Belt and has over 26 years experience in the martial arts. He is currently certified in fifteen different arts.

Born on April 8th, 1977 in Tampa Florida, Master Smith started his martial arts journey in May of 1981. His parents first put him into a very traditional Japanese Karate system which he took for about 6 months. After that his parents moved him to a different martial arts school. This school just happened to teach an art called Wing Chun. Wing Chun is a very direct and effective art. Master Smith loved this aspect. Plus he knew that one of his idols, the great “Bruce Lee” had also studied this art of Wing Chun. He was at this school for about 6 years learning this system.

After that he found another school that taught the martial art that Bruce Lee had created after coming here to the states. This art was named Jeet Kune Do (JKD). The teacher that he was studying with was named Sifu Edwin Pagan Garcia. Master Smith did not know at the time the influence that this man was going to have on him. Sifu Garcia introduced Master Smith to a whole world of different martial arts. He introduced him to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Catch-wrestling, Aikido, Indonesian Silat, and especially the Filipino Martial Arts.

Since then, Master Smith has studied these arts extensively. He has brought into the system everything he feels is useful from all of the arts which he studied. Master Smith has now been in the martial arts for 26 years. Some of his accomplishments have been certifications in fifteen martial art systems and an induction into the “World Martial Arts Hall of Fame” in April of 1997.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The martial arts are physically demanding and include contact through drills and sparring. Because these activities may be strenuous, it is essential that a physician be consulted prior to training.
